How BYD India accelerates the transition towards a greener future
  • Chauhan: this launch is a testament to our commitment to innovation and sustainability

By S.M. Boothem

A global leader in new energy vehicles (NEVs), BYD currently offers passenger vehicles (PVs) across various segments to Indian customers – the ATTO3, e6, Seal, and the latest addition, the MPV eMAX 7. These products have been well-received by customers. Backed by its robust R&D capabilities, BYD has been at the forefront of driving the transition towards NEVs, offering an extensive range of electric vehicles, including passenger cars, buses, trucks, and more. With a presence in 94 countries, BYD continues to set new benchmarks in sustainability, innovation, and quality. Globally, BYD sold 3.02 million and exported 0.24 million NEVs in 2023 (with 61.9 per cent and 334.2 per cent year-on-year growth rates). The company’s annual revenue stood at $83.4 billion compared with $61.7 billion in 2022.

The eMAX 7 is available at a starting price of Rs26,90,000 ex-showroom (pan India) and offers two variants, Superior and Premium, to boost its EV sales in India and encourage customers to choose green vehicles. To support customers in India, BYD India’s PV division has a wide dealership network, with 27 showrooms across 23 cities. The new MPV comes with six- and seven-seater options based on customer preference. The new electric multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) is set to succeed the highly successful BYD e6. One of the vehicle’s notable changes over the outgoing model is the integration of the 8-in-1 electric powertrain from BYD’s highly acclaimed e-platform 3.0 and varied seating options.

The Superior variant comes with a battery pack of 71.8 kWh, and the Premium variant packs a 55.4 kWh battery pack, returning 530 km and 420 km of range respectively. The long-range and long wheelbase of the vehicle ensure a comfortable ride for every family member. The company is also giving a comprehensive warranty on the car and its parts. In terms of the safety of the car, the MPV offers customers a range of convenience and driver assistance features that make it a safe and convenient family car. The vehicle comes with six airbags as standard – ABS, EPF, EBD, and ADAS to name a few. It offers four colours: Quartz Blue, Cosmos Black, Crystal White, and Harbour Grey.

“The launch of the BYD eMAX 7 is a testament to our unwavering commitment to innovation and sustainability. This electric MPV is not just a vehicle; it’s a revolution in how progressive families experience travel. With its cutting-edge technology, exceptional comfort, and eco-friendly performance, the BYD eMAX 7 is set to raise the bar in the Indian electric vehicle market. We are excited to bring this modern, elegant eMPV to our customers and are confident that it will significantly enhance their driving, travel, and ownership experience. We will always be committed to bringing the latest global innovation to our discerning Indian consumers,” explains Rajeev Chauhan, Head of Electric Passenger Vehicles (EPV) Business, BYD India.

Comfort and convenience

The BYD eMAX 7 is designed to make every family drive comfortable and full of entertainment. All three rows of the vehicle have separate AC vents and two type A and type C charging ports for the first two rows each. The 12.8-inch (32.5 cm) intelligent rotating touch screen, a pinnacle of modern technology, hosts Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ensuring seamless connectivity to customers’ phones.

At the same time, the immersive six-speaker sound system adds a fun-filled element to the journey. In addition, the vehicle also hosts advanced convenience features like voice assistance, keyless entry, NFC card key, electric trunk opening, PM 2.5 filtration system, one-touch-up-down with anti-pinch for all four-door windows, and automatic air-conditioning.

“We are progressing at a very fast pace to bring various technological innovations for a better life. 2023 was also the year when BYD as a global automotive company entered into the top 10 bestsellers. We have now delivered nine million cars globally to our consumers and are geared up to the magical number of 10 million by November 2024,” adds Chauhan.

BYD is celebrating 11 years in the electric segment in India, having achieved significant success within the industry, and is now working towards building a complete ‘Born EV’ portfolio. The company will continue accelerating the transition towards a greener future and contribute to its vision to ‘Cool the Earth by 1°C’. India is also keen on bringing more nature-friendly vehicles by encouraging automotive manufacturers to help reduce pollution in the country.
