The company has been present in India for over two decades, offering various products under different brands for both Indian and global markets. These products include the New Holland and Case IH brands for agriculture and CASE Construction for construction equipment. CNH recently announced its new Global Leadership Team (GLT) and designated India as a separate region for the company, highlighting India’s strategic position as a sourcing and manufacturing hub. It operates three plants in India – Greater Noida, Pune, and Pithampur – manufacturing products and components, along with four R&D centres. The company has invested over Rs2,800 crore in the country and employs a workforce of 3,400 personnel.
“CNH has a long history, dating back to 1842. As per 2023 data, globally, we have nine brands, a turnover of 24 billion dollars, more than 40,000 employees, 42 plants worldwide, and 49 R&D centres. We have a capacity of around 60,000 tractors in the Greater Noida plant, which we manufacture here. We also manufacture skid steer loaders, largely for export purposes out of India. We fund our customers so that we can grow the business through financial services by supporting dealers and customers. Now, we understand the importance of India and the kind of growth we foresee here. As a result, India has been designated a separate region for design and manufacturing for global markets,” explains Narinder Mittal, President and MD, CNH India, about the company, its products, and services. The company achieved a milestone of 7 lakh tractors last year. The production line, with its automated manufacturing facility, ensures that every engine is produced defect-free. “We are very quality-conscious worldwide. We focus extensively on reliability and manufacturing quality,” adds Mittal.
The company recently announced the commencement of production at its new engine plant of the TREM V engine for the agriculture and construction product line-up. Made in India, it will be shipped to international markets, marking a significant milestone in the company’s dedication to innovation and localisation. The facility manufactures the advanced 2.8L TREM V engine (namely F28), designed to power the company’s product line-up with exceptional performance and efficiency. This cutting-edge global engine has been localised in India to deliver robust and reliable solutions.
“The launch of the 2.8L TREM V engine underscores our dedication to delivering solutions engineered and manufactured in India. This achievement both enhances our product offerings and reaffirms CNH’s commitment to innovation and sustainable productivity. It highlights our strategic focus on producing reliable, efficient, and environmentally compliant powertrain solutions that will set new benchmarks for the industry,” said Mittal after unveiling the new engine.
Strong synergy
The new 2.8L engine is licensed to CNH by FPT Industrial, the powertrain division of Iveco Group, reflecting the strong synergy between the two entities in driving innovation and sustainability in powertrain technologies. Designed for under-hood applications, its compact design improves engine balance, reduces vibration, and minimises friction for improved fuel efficiency. The advanced engine plant, situated in Greater Noida, spans 7,000 sq m and is designed for scalable production, with an annual capacity of up to 20,000 units.
Currently, the 2.8L F28 TREM V-compliant engine is manufactured for construction equipment (adhering to CEV V norms), with plans to expand its application to agriculture once TREM V emission norms are introduced. Even though it is a 2.8-litre engine, its power output surpasses that of the company’s existing engines in the 3-litre-plus category. With its compact size, it can be utilised as a sustainable solution with natural gas and can also be adapted as a hybrid engine solution.
In terms of stringent product quality, company officials state that every parameter will be digitally monitored as the engine undergoes rigorous testing, assessing torque, power performance, and emissions. With minimal human intervention, data is automatically captured during engine testing. Even the cleaning process incorporates robotic solutions.
The company is also actively engaging with customers, the farming community, channel partners, and dealers to enhance brand awareness for both its agricultural and construction equipment business segments in India. With its current network of 500 touchpoints to serve customers, CNH also plans to expand its presence in the coming years across other parts of the country.
