With the new launch, Hero MotoCorp Xooms ahead!
The Indian 125cc gearless scooter market has long been dominated by models such as the Suzuki Access 125. The Suzuki Access 125, a long-standing favourite and the best-selling 125cc scooter in India for the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer, is known for its fuel efficiency, practicality and reliability. To capitalise on this opportunity, Suzuki also introduced two more models – Avenis and Burgman – to further boost its sales numbers. Observing the demand in the 125cc segment, other two-wheeler manufacturers in the country joined the race and launched products in the competitive 125cc category to strengthen their market share. These include the Honda Activa, Hero Destini, TVS Ntorq 125, Jupiter, Yamaha Ray ZR, Fascino and Vespa, to name a few. The 125cc segment is witnessing strong growth, with consumers increasingly preferring higher-capacity models over entry-level ones. This upward trend in the Indian market is expected to continue in the coming years.
To attract customers and meet their daily commuting needs, these two-wheeler makers have introduced many key features – fuel efficiency being a major selling point. All manufacturers highlight the mileage performance of their scooters. Other features include ample storage space, comfortable seating, and ride quality suitable for all age groups of gearless scooter riders. Additional attractive aspects include sporty designs in eye-catching colours. These scooters also offer the latest technological features, such as Bluetooth connectivity and USB charging ports.
After tasting success with its gearless scooter, the Destini 125 – a budget-friendly option making it accessible to a wider range of buyers – Hero MotoCorp introduced two more scooters at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025: the Xoom 125cc and the Xoom 160cc. The 160cc scooter will be available to customers later this year.
Budget-friendly option
Speaking about Hero MotoCorp’s scooters and market trends, Sanjay Bhan, Executive Vice President, Hero MotoCorp said: “This is perhaps the most significant impact launch in the 125cc category of the Xoom series in scooters for us in a long time. We have just come out of a successful Destini 125. With the full body change, the new Destini has received an overwhelming response from customers. So let me just give you a small perspective on the scooter industry right now. One in every three scooters is from this category.”
The design concept of the new Xoom 125 is derived from the ‘Flight of Falcon’. The two-wheeler major also carried out extensive research with customers across the country to understand their needs before designing the new scooter. These scooters are available in three colours: Inferno Red, Metallic Turbo Blue, and Matte Storm Grey. The company has also ensured comfortable service availability for Xoom parts at its dealerships across the country. We had the opportunity to ride the Xoom 125 scooter and were pleased with its performance in all areas.
Hero MotoCorp continued its leadership position in the financial year 2025 with sales of 5.9 million motorcycles and scooters during the year (April 2024 to March 2025). In December 2024, the company achieved the historic milestone of retaining its market leadership for 24 consecutive years. Building on this legacy, the company has extended its leadership momentum into its 25th year. In March 2025, Hero MotoCorp sold 549,604 units of motorcycles and scooters, registering 12 per cent growth over the same month the previous year. It also achieved its highest-ever monthly dispatches in its global business with 39,518 units – a 27 per cent increase over March 2024. Following the launch of the new Destini 125 scooter, the company commenced dispatches of the Xoom 125 scooter in March 2025.
Although electric two-wheelers are gaining momentum in India with many manufacturers launching their products, the demand for petrol-powered gearless scooters is also expected to maintain its growth momentum. This will be driven by factors such as urbanisation, improved road connectivity, and increasing demand for convenient and fuel-efficient transport.
With its aggressive new product line-up and a wide network of dealerships across the country, Hero MotoCorp is all set to strengthen its scooter portfolio and is gearing up to capitalise on this opportunity.
