Published on

As the world’s leading New Energy Vehicles (NEV) manufacturer, BYD recently introduced its third product, the Seal, an electric sedan, for Indian customers. With its continuous market innovation and development, the company has evolved into a multinational corporation.

The company’s revenue for 2022 reached $61.7 billion. However, in 2023, within just three quarters, revenue surged to $60 billion. BYD commenced its operations in India in 2007. In 2013, it introduced the first electric bus in India, marking the beginning of the electric bus industry era in the country. Furthermore, the company entered the passenger vehicle segment in 2021, and currently offers three products: ATTO 3, e6, and the latest addition, the Seal. BYD announced the opening of bookings for the Seal with enticing benefits for customers booking by 31 March, 2024, with prices starting from R41 lakh.

Apart from its launch in India, the Seal has garnered global attention. It was shortlisted as one of the top three finalists for the ‘World Car of the Year’ at the 2024 Geneva Motor Show by the World Car Awards. Additionally, BYD recently became the Official Partner and e-mobility partner of UEFA European Football Championship 2024, marking the first-ever sponsorship deal for an NEV manufacturer.

The Seal is available in three variants: dynamic, premium, and performance, offering impressive performance with a top driving range of 650 km. A quick 15-minute charge can cover a 200 km driving range. Equipped with ADAS Level 2, NFC card integration, and nine airbags, the Seal ensures a safe and intelligent driving experience. Customers can also enjoy enhanced safety features such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and lane departure prevention. Additionally, the Seal offers other essential safety features, including automatic emergency braking, blind spot detection, door opening warning, and rear cross-traffic brake.

Cleaner and greener future

Sanjay Gopalakrishnan, Senior Vice President, Electric Passenger Vehicle Business, BYD India, said: “At BYD, we have always been driven by innovation and have continually reshaped the landscape of sustainable transportation through our cutting-edge technology, design, exceptional comfort, and unwavering commitment to accelerate a cleaner and greener future in India.” He further added: “The Seal is a distinguished example of our dedication to providing a wide range of green mobility solutions for Indian consumers, and we are confident that it will play a significant role in accelerating the new energy vehicle revolution in India.”

Customers booking a Seal by 31 March, 2024, will receive exciting benefits, including a 7kW home charger and installation service, a 3kW portable charging box, a Seal VTOL mobile power supply unit, 6 years of roadside assistance, and the first service free of charge. Additionally, the Seal comes with an 8-year or 160,000-km warranty (whichever comes first) for the traction battery, an 8-year or 150,000-km warranty for the motor and motor controller, and a 6-year or 150,000-km warranty for the vehicle itself.

BYD concluded 2023 with record-breaking annual sales of three million in global markets, reaching over 400 cities in 70 countries. BYD India aligns its vision with the Indian government’s target of EV30@2030 – 30 per cent of newly registered private cars will be electric by 2030. The company remains committed to accelerating the transition towards a greener future and contributing to its vision to ‘Cool the Earth by 1°C’. Over its 16 years in India, BYD has successfully diversified its operations, encompassing electric passenger vehicles, e-buses, e-trucks, and e-forklifts.

The Seal received 200 bookings and is available in four colours: arctic blue, aurora white, atlantis gray, and cosmos black. The car is offered in three variants: Dynamic at Rs41,00,000, Premium at Rs 45,55,000, and Performance at Rs53,00,000. To promote EV culture in India, BYD plans to expand its sales and service network, allowing people to experience its technology and product excellence.

Recently, electric cars across all segments have gained momentum in India, with several car manufacturers introducing their models and others working on new models to catch up with the EV trend. Being a pure NEV player, BYD is ideally positioned to capture this opportunity in India.
