The 7-seater SUV market in India is witnessing a significant surge, with demand increasing year on year, as the majority of buyers prefer large, premium SUVs. To cater to this segment, manufacturers are bringing out new models. To join the big league, JSW MG Motor recently introduced its new SUV, the Majestor. Currently, several SUVs are available in the market, led by the Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra XUV700, Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan, to name a few. These vehicles offer three-row seating, advanced off-road capabilities and premium comfort features.
The Majestor was showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. It is touted as MG’s most rugged, durable and premium SUV tailored for Indian roads and beyond. “India’s premium SUV customer is evolving rapidly, looking not just for space, but for a vehicle that projects stature, inspires confidence and integrates seamlessly into a more ambitious lifestyle. With MG Majestor, we have created an SUV that is rugged in its capability, refined in its comfort and dependable in its engineering,” said Anurag Mehrotra, MD, JSW MG Motor.
The Majestor is powered by a 2-litre twin-turbo diesel engine that produces best-in-segment power of 215.5 PS and 478.5 Nm of torque, mated to a best-in-class eight-speed automatic transmission (AT) in both 2WD and advanced 4WD variants. The 4WD system has 10 off-road modes. In Auto mode, the vehicle operates in 2WD during regular driving conditions and automatically switches to 4WD the moment it detects loss of traction. This ensures better fuel efficiency during daily use while delivering enhanced off-road capability when required. This intelligent mode is particularly effective in conditions such as rain, snow and slippery surfaces.
Loaded with tech features
The Majestor becomes the first in the segment to offer front, rear and centre differential locks. The SUV has also been tested across the country in varied climatic conditions. In terms of safety, it is equipped with Level 2 ADAS, providing assisted steering, braking and acceleration for enhanced driver confidence across conditions. It also comes with a host of safety features such as a 360-degree HD camera and an Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), integrating Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Traction Control System (TCS) and Roll Movement Intervention (RMI).
For customers, the new SUV comes with an industry-leading 5-5-5 package comprising a five-year unlimited-kilometre warranty, five-year roadside assistance and five labour-free services. Early customers will also benefit from priority deliveries and access to exclusive previews across select cities in March 2026. Pre-reservations opened last fortnight with a booking amount of Rs41,000. Price announcement, showroom display and test drives will take place in April, with deliveries from May 2026.
“For nearly a century, MG has stood for one thing: enabling exciting experiences. In 2024, we shifted gears and launched our MG 2.0 plan. Our vision is to be a leading automotive brand in the new energy vehicles (NEVs) segment. Together with the JSW Group, we are turning bold ideas into powerful realities. The premium SUV segment is consistently growing,” explained Mehrotra. MG’s Windsor emerged as India’s number one selling EV of 2025, becoming the fastest-selling EV to cross 50,000 units.
“The new Majestor addresses all the requirements of customers. The vehicle is capable of off-roading across every terrain: whether snow, mud, rock or slush. It is also the largest, tallest and widest vehicle in its category. We feel confident that we have a large set of customers who will be excited to see this product, drive it and own it. We will play an important role with our focus on NEVs. With the rate at which that market is growing, almost doubling every year, it augurs well for us as it gives us the opportunity to grow significantly,” elaborated Vinay Raina, Chief Commercial Officer, JSW MG Motor.
The carmaker plans to invest Rs3,000 crore for plant expansion, deeper localisation and new product introductions. For CY2026, the company plans to launch three to four new products, with the Majestor being the first. With the vision of becoming a leading brand in the NEV space, it will also introduce new powertrain technologies, including plug-in hybrid technology, with one such model positioned in the luxury segment and sold through the MG Select outlet.
