Gel factor: Will it solve storage problems?
  • Gautam Solar says that tubular gel batteries offer many advantages over standard batteries when paired with solar PV systems

By Business India Editorial

Delhi-based solar module manufacturer, Gautam Solar, has launched a gel battery which it claims is a much-much-needed value-addition to the renewable energy sector.

Gautam Solar says that the battery, which is launched for both domestic and international markets, is in sync with their product range for solar power plants, and addresses the need for energy storage for solar power plants, electric vehicles, telecom and rural electrification.

Gautam Solar expects the gel batteries to give a stronger and better alternative in the energy storage space where currently lithium batteries and tubular lead acid batteries are being used.

Gautam Mohanka, MD, Gautam Solar, said: “We are supremely proud and happy to announce the launch of our gel battery. We have designed the product keeping the solar market in mind, and we hope that this could be a solution for battery backup concerns that many commercial players have. We will continue to transform and develop products that boost the renewable energy sector, and more importantly, we aim to keep prices affordable through home-grown innovations.”

Gautam Solar claims that its gel batteries are cost-effective, thermally stable, long-lasting and sealed maintenance free with no topping up required.

With an eye on the future global market, Gautam Solar says that tubular gel batteries offer many advantages over standard batteries when paired with solar PV systems as they are durable, lightweight, and can endure extreme temperature fluctuations. Gel batteries contain gelled electrolytes, which minimise the risk of evaporation, spillage and use-related corrosion. The batteries also don’t have as much weight as standard batteries, and don’t require any re-filling of acid or water. Transportation in India and exports are not expected to be a hassle.

Gautam Solar adds that the gel battery has excellent deep discharge capability, high recharge efficiency, superior cycle life and long shelf life.

According to the company, the made-in India tubular gel battery comes with a leak-proof design featuring high-grade polymer.
