Indo-Danish hub for wind energy projects
Last week Union Power and New & Renewable Energy Minister R.K. Singh and Denmark’s Minister Dan Jørgensen inaugurated Centre of Excellence for Offshore Wind and Renewable Energy.
Launched as part of India-Denmark Energy Partnership, the centre is to become a nationally and internationally recognised, respected and leading knowledge hub working for a sustainable development of offshore wind energy in India.
The Centre aims to create an optimal environment for offshore wind in India through developing best practices, methods and tools in order to minimise risk and reduce the overall cost of offshore projects. It will be a virtual knowledge hub based on four working groups with Danish and Indian government officials working together to provide the best available international knowledge to the development of the offshore wind sector in India.
India has set ambitious offshore wind installation targets of 5 GW by 2022 and 30 GW by 2030. It was scheduled to hold its first offshore wind tender for 1 GW off Gujarat this year, but this was pushed back due to Covid-19.
UK, EU in REI Expo
The three-day Renewable Energy India (REI) Expo, which begins on 15 September at Greater Noida will be hosting UK and EU pavilions among the over 120 exhibitors.
The expo will host product displays, and latest services and technologies of renewable energy companies.
The event will bring together decision makers and influencers as well as technical experts and professionals from leading companies involved in the renewable energy generation, transmission and distribution.
The expo will also host the UK Pavilion by the Department for International Trade, European Union (EU) Pavilion, and Bio Energy Pavilion, besides launches, product demos, free training programmes.
Jennifer Fagan, First Secretary, Trade and Investment - Energy, UK's Department for International Trade, said: “Earlier this year, the British and Indian Prime Ministers agreed to step up UK-India collaboration on climate change and low carbon transition.
“This was done through a new partnership on renewables and power, including offshore wind, energy efficiency and storage and electric mobility, and to explore joint work on green hydrogen. We are confident that opportunities like these will help us explore potential areas of collaboration.”
Ugo Astuto, Ambassador of the EU to India, said: “The EU-India Clean Energy and Climate Partnership is a key priority for EU-India cooperation, focusing on energy efficiency, renewable energy, integration in the grid, finance, and climate action. The international community needs to step up efforts towards energy transition in the run up to COP26 (in November in Glasgow).”
