For Fastly, India is emerging as an increasingly important growth market as digital consumption rises and artificial intelligence begins to reshape internet traffic. Founded in 2011 and headquartered in San Francisco, Fastly is a Nasdaq-listed edge cloud platform company that helps businesses deliver, secure and run websites, applications and APIs closer to end users. Its platform combines content delivery, cloud computing, cybersecurity and observability at the edge of the network.
Fastly reported FY2025 revenue of $624 million, up 15 per cent from $543.7 million in FY2024. Network services accounted for $477.8 million of revenue, followed by security at $125.1 million and other revenue, which includes compute and observability, at $21.2 million
While Fastly’s India presence dates back several years (entered India with its subsidiary in 2017), its expansion has accelerated sharply over the past two years. Its Indian network has grown from around six Points of Presence (PoPs) to more than 60 in roughly 18 months, while capacity has increased from about 2.2 Tbps in early 2025 to around 28 Tbps.
The expansion reflects a change in the nature of demand. Initially, Fastly’s India network was largely designed to serve international customers whose traffic was entering the country. Increasingly, Indian companies themselves are using Fastly to serve both domestic and overseas customers.
We started getting more interest from customers in India to serve traffic both in the rest of the world and in IndiaArtur Bergman, Founder & Chief Technology Officer, Fastly
Artur Bergman, Fastly’s founder and chief technology officer, says: “We started getting more interest from customers in India to serve traffic both in the rest of the world and in India.” Bergman believes India’s growth potential remains substantial. Fastly estimates that its traffic delivered per capita in India is still around 30 times lower than in the US, suggesting significant headroom as internet usage and digital services expand.
Fastly’s strategy is now focused not merely on adding PoPs but on increasing capacity where traffic is growing fastest. Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata are among the important centres, with further geographic expansion and greater coverage of tier-II cities also expected.
Traffic shift
The company is also strengthening its local enterprise and partner ecosystem, targeting digital-native businesses, startups and Indian companies seeking to expand internationally. The growth of mobile consumption, digital commerce, streaming and global capability centres is creating demand for faster and more secure digital infrastructure.
The next major growth driver could be AI. Fastly’s research shows AI-generated traffic increased about 30 per cent between January and May 2026, growing around 6.5 times faster than human-generated traffic.
AI agents continuously retrieve information and interact with websites and applications, generating large volumes of machine-to-machine traffic. This creates both an infrastructure and security challenge—and an opportunity for Fastly.
Fastly has expanded its Bot Management offering with Content Guard, designed to help publishers identify and block unauthorised AI agents accessing their content, while giving them greater control over how automated systems interact with and use their intellectual property
Bergman sees the infrastructure constraints created by AI as a global phenomenon, saying: “I don’t see anything India-specific. I think… lack of compute, lack of the right network… is a pretty universal constraint.” For Fastly, the opportunity is consequently moving beyond traditional content delivery towards edge computing, security and infrastructure for AI-driven workloads.
Going ahead in India, Fastly intends to continue adding capacity in line with customer demand rather than working towards a fixed number of PoPs. Deeper enterprise penetration, stronger partnerships, broader geographic coverage and support for AI workloads are expected to be key priorities.
India is increasingly becoming an important growth market for Fastly as the country’s digital economy expands and AI adoption accelerates. With its growing network, local talent base and expanding portfolio of edge-cloud and security solutions, Fastly is positioning itself to capture a larger share of India’s next wave of digital infrastructure demand. The company’s India journey is therefore moving beyond simply bringing content closer to users towards building a broader edge layer for applications, security and AI-driven workloads.
