SAIC Motor and JSW Group formed a joint venture – JSW MG Motor India – in 2023. The JV aims to build a smart and sustainable automotive ecosystem while staying focused on developing a diverse portfolio of vehicle.
Driven by its vision of CASE (Connected, Autonomous, Shared, and Electric) mobility, the automaker introduced several ‘firsts’ in India, including India’s first internet SUV – the MG Hector. The introduction of the Hector was a big success. It became a popular brand for the carmaker, and helped it gain a firm footing in the Indian market. The SUV boom in India further generated strong sales numbers. Following the success story of the Hector, the company introduced new models, including the MG ZS EV, the premium SUV Gloster, the Astor, the Comet, and a CUV, Windsor. The recent entrants – the premium sports car Cyberster and the luxury MPV M9 – added further value to the line-up.
The Hector has been a significant volume driver for MG Motor in India since its launch in 2019, contributing to the company by achieving many milestones in terms of sales numbers. The Hector remained the best-selling brand, and the recent reduction in GST rates further helped boost its sales. To take forward the success and brand equity of the Hector, the company recently introduced its updated version, adding the latest features.
JSW MG Motor’s all-new Hector marks a significant step forward in bold design, unrivalled comfort, pioneering technology, and a dynamic driving experience in the SUV segment. The Hector range comes at a starting price of Rs11.99 lakh (ex-showroom). “The Hector was our maiden nameplate and quickly became synonymous with the MG brand, emerging as one of India’s most loved SUVs with 1,50,000 customers since its debut. With the new MG Hector, we take this legacy a notch higher by enhancing its design, comfort, and technology, offering an unmatched value proposition. We believe truly advanced mobility should not be an exclusive luxury reserved for the few. With this superior package, the Hector will further democratise technology while setting a new benchmark for what a premium SUV can deliver,” said Anurag Mehrotra, MD, JSW MG Motor India.
