The overall electric passenger vehicles (EPVs) segment sales in India hit a record 1,99,923 units in FY26 compared to 1,08,873 units in FY25, driven by high demand for SUVs and rising fuel costs. Tata Motors continues to lead the market, followed by Mahindra & Mahindra and MG Motor, with the Rs15-30 lakh segment fuelling the surge.

Seven-seater electric multi-purpose vehicles (EMPVs) cater to both city commuting and weekend trips with family members. After the successful launch of its two products, VF6 and VF7, the Vietnamese carmaker VinFast recently introduced its new product, the VF MPV7, for customers in India at a price of Rs24.49 lakh and a range of 517km. The MPV7 will take on Tata Motors, Mahindra and MG Motor.

With favourable government policies supporting EVs in India, demand for seven-seater electric vehicles offering ample space, comfort and safety features suitable for families on longer journeys, is rising. VinFast Auto India, a subsidiary of the global EV manufacturer from Vietnam, has entered the market to capture share alongside other players. The MPV7 is a premium electric vehicle engineered for the space and versatility that Indian customers require. The launch marks VinFast’s third product introduction within a year, underscoring the company’s commitment to expanding its footprint in the fast-growing EV market in India.

Loaded with the latest features

The new VF MPV, with a wheelbase of 2,840 mm, offers up to 1,240 litres of storage, accommodating luggage and daily essentials. A 60.13 kWh lithium-ion battery delivers a range of 517 kilometres on a full charge (ARAI-certified), while fast charging replenishes the battery from 10 to 70 per cent in 30 minutes. In addition, the MPV comes with a comprehensive ownership package, including 3 years of free maintenance, a 10-year battery warranty, a 7-year vehicle warranty, a 5-year suspension warranty, a 7-year paint warranty and 7 years of roadside assistance, delivering a best-in-segment assurance package for customers. “The all-new VF MPV 7 is VinFast’s third product for India and is most suited to customers with large families. It is designed to offer generous space for every member of the family, comfort that makes even the longest journeys feel effortless, and intelligent features that elevate every single drive. We are entering a new segment, but more importantly, we are expanding our commitment to India,” said Tapan Ghosh, CEO, VinFast India.

The VF MPV 7 joins the VF 6 and the VF 7 in VinFast India’s growing product line-up. Manufactured at VinFast’s plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, these vehicles are made in India for India. Alongside expanding its product range, VinFast is also accelerating the development of its retail and service network across the country. After reaching 35 showrooms by the end of 2025 and recently inaugurating its 50th facility, the company aims to expand its network to 75 showrooms nationwide by the end of 2026, with a focus on growing beyond major metros into cities and towns across India. VinFast has also partnered with myTVS, Castrol India, RoadGrid, Global Assure and BatX Energies for the smooth operation of service, EV charging and roadside assistance.

VinFast is also rolling out a range of initiatives, including extending its free EV charging programme across the V-Green network through 31 March 2029 for all customers; introducing the ‘Trade Gas for Electric’ programme with attractive incentives, financing packages and flexible loan options; and implementing a value-assured buyback programme of up to 75 per cent to help safeguard long-term asset value. These efforts are designed to support consumers in transitioning to electric mobility, contributing to the acceleration of transport electrification and India’s emission reduction goals.

“Our ICE-to-EV exchange scheme allows owners of internal combustion vehicles to trade in their cars and upgrade to a VinFast EV with financial support. Every vehicle exchange is a tangible step in India’s shift to cleaner mobility. Looking back now, I can say with full confidence that the journey has exceeded our expectations. The VF6 and VF7 have performed well in the market,” adds Ghosh.

The Vietnamese carmaker is confident that favourable conditions in the Indian market for EVs will help further boost its market share.
